A Brief Analysis of a New Device to Prevent Early Intubation in Hypoxemic Patients: An Observational Study

The need for mechanical ventilation is one of the main concerns related to care patients with COVID-19. aim this study evaluate efficacy a bubble device oxygen supplementation. This was implemented selected hospitalized severe COVID-19 pneumonia persistent low saturation. Patients were in three major hospitals Bahia state Brazil from July November 2020, where they remained seven days and monitored different factors, such as vital signs, oximetry evaluation, arterial blood gasometry. Among 51 included study, 68.63% successfully overcame hypoxemia without necessity be transferred ventilation, whereas 31.37% required tracheal intubation (p value < 0.05). There no difference note on analysis clinical data, chemistry, hematological exception SpO2 follow-up days. Multivariate revealed that independent variable, male sex, SpO2, non-inhaled mask, associated requiring early ventilation. We concluded should prior step utilized before indication pneumonia.
